Hi, i just bought my first used rv and things not going so good. I bought a used 1990 Pacearrow and on the way home from Florida the alternator went out. I was lucky to find a gas station that was open all night and they let me park it. My wife was folowing me and we stayed in a motel.Next moring a bought a new battery and started out for home in Ga. Well made it about a hundred miles from home it rained like heck. Stoped again because I couldn't use wipers or lights that would kill battery. Bought abattery charger, got home and I have no power to the dash or engine compartment. Battery charged, checked all fuses in and under hood all good, checked power cut off switch above door and have power there. Hot from battery to soleniod but not from top lead. Oh radio, lights nothing comes on. need help!!!!!   PLEASE THANKS JIMS

Hello Jim, on your electrical problem, 1st check that you have power to the alternator battery lead, then test for power to the alternator regulator connector, should have power when ignition is on only to regulator field ternimal, if you have battery lead power and ignition power to field lead and no charging, then time for alternator, I suspect you have a poor connection or burned fusible link at the starter or at the chassis battery , also inspect connection at the power assist solenoid, I think the power cut off switch over the door is for coach 12 volt power not chassis power. I'm guessing that your vehicle has chevy throttle body 454cu in. with 400 trans ???

I ran into mechanic friend at lunch and he came over and grounded a solenoid and got power back. I must have held main switch down to long and soleniod stuck. I'm taking to mechanic tomorrow and having alternator replaced as it was only showing 12.30 volts out put. I appreciate your taking time to answer my question. i do have a 454 chevy and don't know fi turbo hydro 400. i'll ask mechanic. Do you know where i might get a book that shows how everything works in the coach? Like those cut off switches above door. Mec told me that when vehicle is running you should be able to turn on aux switch to charge coach batterys while running? Like i said it hasn't been much fun without knowing how everything is suppose to work. Again i appreciate you taking the time to answer my question. Thanks much Jim S

Jim, On mine which is older (83) if I toggle the "Dual.. MOM" switch to dual that will charge ALL batteries...

Now if my alternater drops dead I can fire up the genny and leaving the "Dual/mom" switch in dual it will keep the engine battery at top form due to the fact the 120V converter keeps a 13.6V charge going through ALL batteries.

Either with the Onan running OR the rig is plugged into 120V IF the converter is working all you need to do is push the "Dual/MOM" switch on the dash to "Dual".....and turn on the ignition key to ON or accessary which will pull up the relay that will allow 12V to pass through to the main battery.

You will also hear that relay click...
