I am sure Steve will want them.  Just wait til he answers and tells you where to send them.

Yes. Let me ask you, when you scan them....what format are they in "images" or "PDF"...this will effect how we store and display them on the site.

If you wouldn't mind emailing me a few pages I would like to try something that would make it available and online to registered members.

Let me know what you guys think about this idea: http://www.thisoldrv.com/Manuals/Ki...Steps.aspx

You can "turn" the page by gabbing the corner and "turning" the page with your mouse.

Ideally...manuals would be in PDF format...but most member don't have the software to so this...so what I can do is make on "online manual" and then allow people to download the manual images (in a zip file)....check out the page again and tell me what you think.

And thanks for sending the images.

I agree. If this works for member then I can setup each manual in a directory. I can tell you I've spent a lot of time looking for manuals so creating a repository would be terrific. I'll post the other one you sent me. Thanks!

Awesome! I'm hoping we can create the ultimate library for people looking for some of these long lost manuals. I don't really have an automatic way worked out yet...but for now here is what is working

    Scan in your manuals

Email me either a series of jpg images (one for each page) or a PDF of the entire manual (they must be jpgs).

    I'll do the rest.

Ideally, the images would be named and numbered in order (PaceArrow1.jpg, Pacearrow2.jpg)

In time perhaps we can even scan in manauls for those that don't have scanners. I guess people could mail me documents, I scan them and create the online manuals....or of we had some volunteers then they could help with this effort too.

If you would like I can created PDF's using Adobe's Creative suite. Send me a link to the zipped files and a place for me to return the document. I can host it on my personal pages until you get your attachment module setup.

I intend to scan in my owners manual (during lunch breaks :) ) but I do not have the service manual. Spoke with Helen Davis Secretarial Services and they have one for 80's Airstream motorhomes. However at $100 plus $10 shipping I would like better quality than a photocopy. Apparently it's 400+ pages and would take some time to scan all pages, correct and align them.

However, I wouldn't mind a mini road trip to whoever has one that would like to get a digital copy.

I have the manuals and they are very large.  Where do you live?  When I get time we have a high speed scanner and I will scan them in and make them available.

Okay, I see you live in Georgia.  Doubt if you want a short trip to Minnesoooota in the winter time.  I will get them scanned when I get time.  I know, I know, I'm retired.  You don't know what busy is til you retire and are available to do all these "Honey does". and things your friends and your children have planned for you.

I want to educate everyone again about some free software on the web called "Open Office"  It will do everything "Word" does and what's more and its free.  They only ask that if you like it you make a donation.  It is being developed by a consortium of colleges and Universities accross the country.  Down load it at OpenOffice.org.

I use this program for all my documents.

I took the time to scan in my owners manual this morning in between building a MySQL database. Two mind numbingly repetitive processes but each providing good results :)

After scanning the first few pages i took the pages out of the ring binder as keeping the image straight was kinda tricky.

A high speed scanner will help, but it will still take a while. ever polished an airstream? you'll stay clean tho.

i concur, OpenOffice is a wonderful package for those needing office software. The Gimp (gimp.org) another open source project is great if you need image manipulation software.

ps. i like the fancy page flip thing on the Kiwee Steps manual (see above) neat

I also am very fond of Gimp and another one I like for free is Paint.net.  With these  three programs you can create any document, image, or movie you like.  All are being developed by the Univercities and they are free for the downloading.  They only ask for a donation if you like them.  They also update themselves when new revisions are available.  Don't worry about a thing.  They are the real thing and not some sort of scam.

So what about this. If I setup each manual with a five - ten page "intro" (like the Kiwee manual) then make the entire manual file downloadable from the site do you think this would work?

I think would be a lot eaier than displaying the entire manual online and since most people would like download and "print" the manual the amazon style "sneek peek" feaure might be enough to get an idea for the content.
