We took the old Krager out this weekend for the first time since I drove it home at New Years. I have been doing some work on it since then and this was our first outing. Well, we kept it short as we did not have time to go longer and did not want to risk breaking very far from home. Some of us had some obligations Sat morning, so we planned to leave at about noon. I got up and started to get ready to go. Checking out systems and making sure we had what we need for the trip. I had nevere hooked up the water before so I pulled into the driveway and gave it a try. I turned on the hose bib and then hear one of the "bad sounds". Water spraying everywhere. Shut it down and went to inspect. Busted pvc fittings, apparently from freezing. Split down the middle. Run to Home Depot and get the parts, come back and install. Looks good, try again. Few drips here and there but not too bad. Tighten things up and we are ready to try some fixtures. I went ahead and filled the fresh tank. Upon fillinfg to the top, I found a leak in the tank near the top (Can this be patched with epoxy?). Clean up water!!! Again!!! Let some water out and tried some fixtures. Looks good. While I was working the crew got loaded up and we were off to the races. Anybody ever driven on I-10 in Houston? You get the point. Our plan was to visit a small town West of H-town and check out the Market Days downtown before we headed to the RV park down the road. It was pretty uneventful, except for the stares. Got to the RV park, bought some propane ($2.75) and hooked up near the swing set and the pond. Went and played with the kids 'til dark (fishing, swinging, and exploring). Hung around till bedtime and watched a movie for the kids. Typical Texas weather, went to bed with A/C on and woke up to pleas for heat. Made breakfast and headed back to the pond. My little girl (7) is really getting into this. Stayed as long as we could and the we unhooked and hit the road again. Onto one of the main reasons for the trip, the wild flowers are blooming. If you have never seen bluebonnets in bloom you are missing out. Google bluebonnets on images and you can get an idea. Traffic problems as people stop to take photos of their kids in the flowers. Very pretty anyway. Cruising back home and all seemed well until we are about 45 minutes from home and we are sputtering. Decide it felt like running out of gas or clogged filter. Pulled over and added some gas and checked fluids. Everything seemed ok. Off we go. We should have had 10 gallons left so I figured something else was amis but we ran fine all the way home. Long story long. We are hooked! The boy and I will camp anywhere, my wife is not interested and my daughter is less than enthusiastic. This is an excellent compromise. My daughter even asked if we could stay in the RV tonight. Can't wait to go again. Going to be in a parade first...............more about that later. Thanks for reading all this junk if you got this far, Larry |
